When Vladut, a Romanian man, met Elena, whom he called "the love of his life", during a trip to France, they agreed to meet up again when they went back to Romania.

However, Elena suffered an accident and decided not to stay in touch. Meanwhile, Vladut bumped into her twin sister, Monica, at the seaside, and thought it was Elena. She did not correct him and the pair married in 2001, and remained together for three years before Vladut realized he was living with the wrong twin.
