Miami acquired its very own parking meter fairy in 2004 when 37 year-old actor, Xavier Cortes donned a curly pink wig, lavender tutu and fake wings and roller skates around the city putting change into meters that were about to run out.

He had answered the advertisement placed by Coconut Grove retailers and restauranteurs who feared that visitors to the district were being discouraged by parking tickets. The advertisement stated that the successful candidate would be "a colorful one-of-a-kind extrovert who looks good in tulle". Cortes, carrying a wand, and armed with $40 dollars in dimes, skated through the neighborhood, leaving his calling card under windshield wipers: "You've just been saved by the Coconut Grove parking-meter fairy.
